You might be taking life cover for the first time. You may be renewing your professional driver’s permit or applying for a skipper’s license. These moments often come with a long list of paperwork, and somewhere on that list is a medical report.
Medical assessments for policies and licenses are routine but important. They help insurance providers and licensing bodies confirm that you meet the health requirements for their coverage and legal standards.
At Dr Annelize Keevé’s practice, you can schedule these assessments with ease and walk away with the documents you need.
What kind of medicals do you offer?
Our GP team provides health evaluations for a range of insurance policies and official licenses. These include:
- Medical reports for life insurance or critical illness cover (including Discovery, Old Mutual, Liberty, and other major providers)
- ECGs, stress ECGs, lung function tests, peak flow (a tool for monitoring lung function), and drawing of blood samples
- Health assessments for income protection policies
- Driver’s license medicals, including Professional Driving Permits (PDP)
- Skipper’s license (SAMSA) medicals for those applying to operate a vessel
Each of these assessments serves a specific purpose. Some focus on physical fitness. Others on chronic illness risk, vision, or hearing. Some require lab tests. Others do not.
What should I expect during my appointment?
Once your appointment is booked, you will be asked to bring along:
- Your ID or passport
- The forms provided by your insurer or licensing authority
- A list of current medications (if any)
- Glasses or hearing aids, if you use them
During your visit, Dr Keevé may:
- Review your medical history and current symptoms
- Perform a basic physical examination
- Check your blood pressure, pulse, weight, and height
- Conduct vision or hearing screening (where required)
- Complete and sign your required documents
Some applications may also require blood or urine tests. If that is the case, you will be informed in advance.
How can I make the process smoother?
Here are a few tips:
- Arrive a few minutes early with all the necessary paperwork
- Fill in your personal details on any forms before the appointment
- Bring all assistive devices (glasses, hearing aids, etc.)
- Avoid energy drinks or caffeine right before your appointment, as it can affect blood pressure readings
If your insurer, employer, or licensing body needs a medical assessment, you can book with the team at Dr Annelize Keevé’s practice. It is one more box ticked so that you can move forward with your application, fully prepared.
